The Vitrines - The Same Difference EP
The Vitrines are a young grungy Punk Rock band from Southampton consisting of Alex Donovan on vocals & guitar and Morgan Haynes on drums.
Despite only being 16 yeas old, they have already played at the O2 Academy Islington and caught the eyes and ears of BBC Introducing, for a bloody good reason!
This new five track EP was released on 9th April 2017 and is already causing a storm with it’s massive popularity and the video to accompany the first track on the EP.
The EP starts of with ‘Love You Like I Used To’ which begins with Alex’s soft vocal tones before the drums kick in and the tempo changes. This song has a great dancy, feel to it and incorporates some clever tempo and mood changes.
The second track is titled ‘You’re Right’ starting with a great grungy instrumental and alex’s voice becoming more grungier in this old-school angry style punk song.
Track three is ‘You Say It All’ which begins on a soft melodic tone, then the drums kick in. This song is more simplistic and catchy with repetitive lyrics.
Next up is ‘Just Leave It To Us’, a bouncy, jump-around the place punk song. Some great shouting parts of this song which will definitely get you singing along. I really like the use of tempo changes in this song as it really does make you want to jump around!
The final song on the EP is ‘Commonly Expressed’. This is the most softer of the songs on this EP vocal-wise anyway. The drums and guitar riffs are extremely powerful and take over on this song as the main points of interest to me personally.
Overall the EP is really great and shows off the vocal range of singer Alex and the versatility of the band as a whole (or duo, whatever you want to call them). I have listened to the EP a few times now and still, I find even more interesting points within their songs. The is one band who are starting their musical career young and doing it well! I for one will be keeping an eye on these guys as they are gonna be MASSIVE!
